BEIJING, China: China will seek to increase its solar and wind power generation to some 11 percent of the country's total power consumption in 2021, from 9.7 percent in 2020, said the National Energy Administration on April 19.

The announcement was made by Chinese President Xi Jinping, who announced that China will boost its use of non-fossil fuels in primary energy consumption to some 25 percent by 2030.

Chinese officials also urged developers of solar and wind power generation to speed construction, and asked local governments and power grid firms to work to ensure that solar and wind power is able to connect to the grid.

Additionally, local governments are expected to accelerate the granting of approvals to new solar and wind projects.

China's solar and wind plan will be open for public comments until April 25.
